They are some of the world's greatest ever horse racing names, but new research has suggested that the likes of Seabiscuit, Man O'War, Secretariat and Seattle Slew may all have a distant genetic connection.
Researchers have claimed that all the best thoroughbreds of racing are all very distantly related after tracing the 'speed gene' they all share to a single ancestor from the 17th century.

The champion filly IGUGU overcame all the odds and an interrupted preparation to score a thrilling victory in the Gr 1 J & B Met on Saturday. Bravura was brave in defeat in second ahead of Gimmethegreenlight and a fast finishing Run For It.

Mike Bass enjoyed a good sale at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale purchasing 7 lots for an average of R1, 275m. Included in his purchases was lot 225, a bay Jet Master Colt out of Our Table Mountain from Highlands Stud which topped the sale at R2,8M for partners Marsh Shirtliff, Markus Jooste and Bryn Ressell.

Assistant trainer Betina van Schalkwyk said her goodbye’s at the stable last week as she has decided to pursue a new career path. She will be joining the American Saddlers world, working at the offices of an independent company called Impondo.
